Hello! My name is Elizabeth or Bitsy, and I am pleased to be here! I am 23 years old, and have always dreamed of being a part of historical reenactments. I realize that being a member on the forums does not indicate acceptance into the guild, but I mean to ask a potentially dunderheaded question and ask that you bear with my ramblings (if you wish, skip straight to thesecond-to-last paragraph; therin lies the important question). First, a little background:

From about my 12th year or so, I have been dreaming of being a 'historical reenactor.' I begged my parents to take me to the Old Deseret Village (even learned to read the Deseret Alphabet, if anyone knows what that is) and tried to talk my parents into letting me volunteer there. When my family visited Revolutionary and Pioneer reenactments, I daydreamed for days about being a part of such things. I had no delusions about these; I know these people work hard at what they do and that the past is not as romantic as many books make it out to be. But oh! How I loved being a part of another time!

I was only recently informed that Utah had a Renaissance Faire, and today found the page leading to the various guilds. I did not really know what a guild was, and still fear I may be woefully ignorant. I'm not sure what a guild does, really...nor the rules and etiquette that apply to being a member of one. I also fear I am ignorant of many things about the time period; being unsure what sources are reliable and how to put things into practice I have a lot to learn.

That being said, I always do my best. I love to learn and try things, I try to be as accurate as I know how and appreciate patient teaching and criticism to help me improve.

Rambling done; on to the question: Could there be a place for one such as me in your guild? I would do my best in all things, and do any reading and research required of me, but I am unlearned in many things. I do not wish to be a burden (Oh, and by the way, yes this is the way I habitually type; my spoken language tends to be much less verbose and flowery) and wonder if members of the guild might not look down on my obvious inexperience and lack of knowledge. I also do not know what criteria you place upon prospective members, if they are required to audition or any such thing.

If you do not believe there is place for me in the Order of the Azure Rose, what do you recommend I do so that I may one day join? Any help you all can give will be most appreciated.

Sincerely,

Bitsy

Thank you, Lady. I did contact Teri (dash it all, I've forgotten her persona name) and get a packet. I've filled it out and hope to get it sent back soon. A quick question: Do you wish me to send along a check for the membership dues or do you accept Paypal or some such thing? Just as a reminder: I am likely to mostly be an Absentee member as I cannot often make the trip to CO. ;)
